The 3 Best Dessert Recipes for Amateur Bakers

basket of treats

When I say that these are the best dessert recipes for amateur bakers, what I really mean is that these are the easiest recipes for people who can’t actually bake, like yours truly! Whether you’re trying to up your rep in the kitchen or just looking for a few sweet treats you can throw together quickly and effortlessly, these three recipes have got you covered.

White Chocolate Bark

Ingredients:

  • Graham crackers
  • White chocolate chips
  • Topping of your choice (crushed peppermints, coconut, sprinkles, crushed pecans, etc.)

Start by melting the chocolate chips. Turns out there’s actually a process to doing this right otherwise you’ll end up with a thick, chunky mess. But if I can do it, so can you. Place the chocolate chips in a bowl and microwave for 30 seconds. Remove, stir, and then pop them back in for 10 more seconds. Keep microwaving at 10-second intervals stirring in between. Be careful not to overdo it otherwise they’ll get hard. Once the chocolate is properly melted, dip the top of each cracker in, sprinkle with your choice of topping, and then place them on parchment paper in the fridge to cool.

Oreo Peppermint Cheesecake Bites

Ingredients:

  • One pack of Oreo cookies
  • 8 oz pack of cream cheese
  • Chocolate chips
  • 1 tsp peppermint oil
  • Topping of your choice

Any list of the best dessert recipes has to include some kind of cheesecake. Start by combining the Oreo cookies and cream cheese in a food processor. I should add—speaking from experience here—that a blender, Baby Brezza, or hand mixer will not work, so don’t waste your time trying. If you don’t have a food processor, crush the cookies by hand, add to the cream cheese and then get your hands in there and mix it up. Then roll the mixture into small balls and chill them in the freezer for at least 20 minutes to help them hold their shape.

Once they’re solid, melt your chocolate chips and stir in a teaspoon of the peppermint oil. The oil is optional, but I find that it helps to cut some of the sweetness. Then dip the balls into the melted chocolate and roll in your topping of choice. (I highly recommend crushed peppermint candies for this one.) Pop them back in the fridge till the chocolate hardens.

Chocolate Skor Bars

Ingredients:

  • One box of original Ritz crackers
  • One 300 mL can of sweetened condensed milk
  • Chocolate chips (Chipits Skor flavour if you can find them, otherwise regular chocolate chips works, too)

When it comes to easy treats, this is one of the best dessert recipes to really impress. Crush the crackers in the bag and then mix in a big bowl with the sweetened condensed milk and chocolate chips. Line a 9”x13” cake pan with parchment paper and add the mixture, spreading it out to cover the base of the pan. Bake for 10 minutes at 350 degrees. Then remove and let it cool in the pan. Once the pan is completely cool, cut into small squares and you’re done! If you really want to get fancy, drizzle some melted chocolate over top.
